Cross-country skiing in the Hohe Tauern National Park

The view to the highest mountains is like a pleasure here.

Watch out – even reading this might engender a feeling of yearning; which is familiar in the range of places of yearning there are - for instance the deep snow-covered mountaineering village of Prägraten am Großvenediger. A mountain landscape which looks like it has sprung out from a picture book, with tracked slopes which all have a ‘role’ to play. When even the “standard slope” proceeds for around 20 kilometres from the leisure centre in Prägraten into the wonderful mountain scenery, then you ask yourself how can this standard be topped. Maybe the “sunny slope” in Ströden which is alluring with its view to the “ice giants” of Maurertal and which lives up to its name? In Virgen too, 4 perfectly prepared slopes, pastures, forests and streams are included in the overall experience. Or maybe you’d prefer to make tracks on your skis and discover East Tyrol’s mountain scenery?

Then you’re in luck, this sort of exploring is still including in the idea ‘insider tip’. Hiking with skis guarantees you something which increasing numbers of people are looking for - tranquillity, relaxation and a place where you really can take a deep breath. A place where you can be alone, without being isolated. Tranquillity and a spirit of discovery combine here, since you go to places which give the impression that this is the first time they have been discovered.

You should also pay a visit to Kals am Großglockner since you have to see and ski on the 24 kilometres of double-tracked cross-country slopes. Anyone who does circuits here get a foretaste of a winter paradise. In East Tyrol expectations are not just fulfilled, they are exceeded at every turn.
