Hidden on the very eastern edge of the Lienz valley is the sun-kissed community of Nikolsdorf - the easternmost municipality in Tyrol. "Welcome to Osttirol" is the motto here at the entrance to the village, right at the Carinthian border.
Nikolsdorf has the not unimportant function of giving arriving visitors to Osttirol a first good impression of the country and the people of "Alpine Tyrol". The idyllic centre and the north walls of the eastern Lienz Dolomites support this with their appearance. Nikolsdorf’s hospitableness does the rest to complete the picture. The main settlement of the cadastral community is the village of Lengberg, where the eponymous castle Lengberg is particularly worth seeing. By now restored, Lengberg Castle was first officially mentioned in the year 1190.
However, above all, its airfield makes the 887-soul community a special place among the Osttiroler communities. On a sightseeing flight high above Nikolsdorf you can look at the unique mountain ranges of the Lienz Dolomites, the Schober Group and the Debant Valley from a most special perspective. Anyone who enjoys the Osttiroler mountains like this will see their beauty in a completely different light.

Despite some clouds and patches of cloud, the sun will already be breaking through more frequently on Thursday. Temperatures will continue to rise, reaching over 20 degrees in the afternoon, and not just in the town of Lienz. The likelihood of the odd brief shower is highest in the south of East Tyrol.
