Schlaiten

Holiday paradise with a panoramic view

Hidden but even more beautiful and quiet, the municipality of Schlaiten expands on impressive 150 meters above the valley floor of the Iseltal. The settlement area is almost completely situated on a terrace southwest of the River Isel. Above all, the magnificent panoramic view onto the surrounding mountain landscape is fascinating.

In Schlaiten, you get very close to the slopes of the Villgrater mountains. A popular panoramic mountain is Bockstein, the highest point of the municipal area. At 2805 meters, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view.

Like many communities in Osttirol, Schlaiten looks back on an eventful history. Already in the 13th century, silver and base metals were mined here. Around the 15th century, mining in Schlaiten experienced its heyday. Today, a visit to the Kriegergedächtniskapelle (War Memorial Chapel) is worthwhile. Also the charming chapel of St. Chrysanth and Daria is worth seeing, as it houses a neo-Romanesque high altar from 1888.

The plateau-like location of the municipality offers a variety of scenic hiking opportunities, the spectrum ranges from leisurely walks through the forest to demanding summit tours.

Forecast:

Weak high-pressure influence will largely determine our weather this weekend as well. Consequently, the sun should shine frequently during the day on Saturday. However, cumulus clouds will also develop as the day progresses—especially over the mountains—and are likely to grow larger, particularly in the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms or rain showers are therefore to be expected. It remains warm with mid-summer-like temperatures, reaching over 30 degrees in some areas.
