In the Tiroler Lesachtal Valley in Tyrol, farming has not lost its importance to this day. The beauty of the landscapes and the unique character of this valley are still largely preserved and maintained by the farmers. This pays off, as the high valley has always been considered one of the most beautiful in Europe and was named “Landscape of the Year” by the International Friends of Nature and “Europe’s Most Environmentally Friendly Valley” by the European press.
Here, nature-oriented and sustainable tourism is both practiced and experienced, and hospitality springs from the very heart of this valley.
The beautifully located village is a perfect holiday destination for individual tourists. If you want to relax far away from everyday hustle and bustle, you are perfectly right here in Untertilliach. The picturesque village centre invites to relaxing walks, on which the sacral buildings and rustic farmhouses can be viewed. Giant spruce trees, as they are known for example from Canada and North America, tower around the village.
In summer, a hike on one of the many hiking trails is just as worthwhile as a tour by mountain bike. The Gailtal High Route and the Carnic High Route pass by in close proximity to Obertilliach. Especially the Carnic Ridge provides many varied tour destinations in unique natural settings.
the winter months, the Grenzland (border land) trail, which leads through the valley to Kartitsch, makes cross-country skiers’ hearts beat faster in the truest sense. Of course, Untertilliach is also perfect for ski fans as e.g. the ski resort of Golzentipp is just a few minutes away.
