Iselsberg-Stronach

A magnificant view at 1112 meters above the sea

The sunny National Park community of Iselsberg-Stronach proudly towers over the Lienz valley bottom, embedded in a wonderful mountain landscape. The Schober Group and the Kreuzeck Group flank the municipality, which is located at the road connection from the Lienz valley bottom to Mölltal Valley. In the west and south Iselsberg-Stronach is adjacent to Dölsach, in the east and north you are almost in Carinthia, because the community is adjacent to Winklern in the neighbouring federal state of Carinthia.

The village centre is located at impressive 1117 meters above sea level. Thanks to this altitude, Iselsberg-Stronach offers a magnificent view onto the mountains of Osttirol. Particularly impressive are the spectacular rock formations of the Lienz Dolomites in the south. In addition, the climate in the municipality, which is part of Hohe Tauern National Park, plays a major role. In winter, the sunny slopes here are usually significantly warmer than in valley basin and the heat of summer is slightly mitigated by the constantly blowing wind.

Apart from countless beautiful forests and meadows, the municipality of Iselsberg-Stronach is home of two special natural monuments. One of them is the Defregger larch, which commemorates the painter Franz von Deferegger. Another natural gem is the Zwischenberger Lacke on the saddle between the Ederplan and the Stronachkogel. The municipality in the national park relies on tradition, for example the Gumpitschhof in Iselsberg is the oldest documented ancestral estate of Tyrol, with the first change of possession crossing being  documented in the year 1528.

Iselsberg-Stronach is a starting point for various mountain and hiking tours, as there are numerous worthwhile tour destinations surround this municipality. Even in winter, ski resorts, toboggan runs and cross-country skiing tracks are close. But no matter which destination you set out on, the fantastic mountain ranges around the village on the Iselsberg-Sattel can truly make you speechless, making every tour an unforgettable experience. If you spend your holidays here, you will understand what holidays in the mountains actually are about.
