Sunny village near Lienz

The sunny villages of Gaimberg, Oberlienz and Thurn around the bottom of the Lienz valley are not without reason an ideal destination for guests who love the sun and quality of life amidst an impressive mountain scenery.

All three sunny villages provide a fantastic view onto the mountains of the Lienz Dolomites. The small town of Lienz at the foot of the Dolomites with its Mediterranean atmosphere is located in direct proximity to all three villages and the range of recreational opportunities in this region seems endless. Here locals and guests can enjoy the fine life to the fullest.

One of these three sunny villages is the municipality of Thurn, which is located on the gently rising valley floor, only about 2 km from the city centre of Lienz. If you turn your eyes to the south in Thurn, the rugged limestone cliffs of the Dolomites rise impressively at the opposite end of the Lienz valley floor. In the foreground, the densely wooded Rauchkofel at the foot of Lake Tristacher See is a popular destination. The peaks of the Schober Group, which reside in the area of the municipality, complete the beauty of Thurn. The municipality also provides other rewarding  tour destinations such as the Rotgabele or the Goisele.

Thurn lives up to its reputation as sunny village throughout the year, in every season you can refill your vitamin D stores here. Especially attractive at Thurn are the different landscape characteristics. While the north-western area has high alpine character, in the northeast you will find an area that belongs to the plateau of winter sports and hiking resort Zettersfeld.

Numerous hiking and theme trails in Thurn invite you to explore the area around the Lienz Valley bottom. Deceleration coupled with unique nature and warming sun rays can be enjoyed especially on the sunshine paths. From the toll road to the hiking area Zettersfeld, the starting points to unique tours in the untamed wild are just a few minutes away. Whether for a leisurely hike to the Neualplseen lake or rather to a challenging climb onto a three-thousander - this is a brilliant starting point. In winter, the privileged situation of Thurns also pays off. Without much effort, you can quickly reach the base stations of the Hochstein and Zettersfeld ski areas or Lienz's historic city centre, which provides a charming atmosphere all year round.
