Assling

Sun-kissed along the Pustertal High Route

The idyllic municipality of Assling is located on a sunny plateau at the eastern entrance of the Pustertal Valley and remarkably comprises 18 districts. Assling is thus one of the largest communities in Osttirol. The quietly located village nestles picturesquely on the slopes along the Pustertal High Route. The fact that this community is truly sun-kissed is attested by an average of 10 hours of sunshine per day. In addition to the warming sun, you can of course also find mountains, streams, flowers, meadows, forests and plenty of water high above the Pustertal Valley. The entire municipal area provides breath-taking views when the steep rock formations of the Lienz Dolomites glow in the red sunset. The townscape of Assling is also influenced by the numerous churches, chapels and "Stöckl'n" (wayside shrines), including the charming chapel "To the Sacred Heart of Jesus". The citizens of Assling are engaged in numerous clubs - it is no coincidence this community of 1783 inhabitants has the third largest voluntary fire brigade in Tyrol with more than 150 members.

In order to be an attractive holiday destination for young and old, Assling offers a wide range of leisure activities. Especially for families, the Assling Wildlife Park is a worthwhile attraction. After visiting the animals drop by the summer toboggan run. In the valley, the ViTHAL leisure centre attracts numerous visitors every year. It offers various activity options - a jump into the cool water seems to be just as tempting as a fast-paced tennis match. In direct proximity to the leisure centre also is the popular Drau Cycle Path, which leads to the district capital Lienz in a few minutes. The valley accommodates an insider tip among theexcursion destinations of Osttirol: The Vitalpinum. Nearby the Drau Cycle Path, the vital powers of the mountains and their herbs can be felt and experienced on 6,500 m2 here - for example on the Kneipp path.

During the winter months, the snowy landscape in and around Assling has a lot to offer anyway. The town has a small ski lift, where pure wintry mountain romance can still be experienced. By the way: the Compedal Skihütte (ski lodge) is a popular meeting place, where you can take a walk, toboggan or simply relax under the warming winter sun and in fresh mountain air.

The snowfall will ease in the morning and there won't be much fresh snow in the afternoon either. Most of the snow will fall from Defereggen Valley to Alta Pusteria and Obertilliach. However, it won't be much more than around 15-20 cm here either.
