Valley Debanttal

The Debanttal, with a total length of 16 km, is the longest self-contained pasture valley in Austria. The Schober group forms the end of the valley with the Hochschober, rising 3,242 m above sea level. Thanks to the favourable climate and the geological conditions here, the valley is home to a wide range of species of wildlife and mountain plants. Cows spend the summer on the cultivated Alpine pastures while further up on the mountain slopes, larch and stone pine forests can be found. Particularly striking is the shimmering green bluish Debantbach stream. This is fed from cirque lakes and sources, and as there is hardly any glacial water flowing, its water is crystal clear.

The Debanttal is ideal for family walks, mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking. It can be reached by car from Seichenbrunn. The natural and cultural trail starts there, which leads to the Lienzer hut at 1,974 metres of altitude. This is also the starting point for a walk to the Wangenitzseehütte hut.
