Wegelate Säge

You’ll set eyes on a genuine unique specimen in Innervillgraten in Villgratental - a Venetian saw. And this is not just any saw, here you will find the only water-powered Venetian saw still in operation. The Wegelate Säge is all alone on the world and is something quite special. The Villgrater people have demonstrated genuine farsightedness with it and have, using public funds, a unique and the last Venetian saw around. It is not only the preservation of an old tradition and an old structure which has been fulfilled here; the environment has been spared too. This too has been recognised and Villgrater’s Heimatpflegeverein were presented the “Henry Ford environmental award”. They also lifted the “Europa Nostra Award”. No wonder, since you don’t see something like this any old day of the week.

Some might say there is “nothing” in Villgratental. Yet it is quite the opposite, there is a great deal of fitting, interesting and special things. Villgratental is uniquely different and is true to its roots in a creative way. The Wegelate Säge is available for sightseeing tours from the start of July until mid-September. A feature which could and should receive even more publicity. Paying a visit during your next summer holiday in East Tyrol could well be an important start. Not to be missed in any event!
