Austria’s highest mountain has plenty to offer. How about a Glockner Circuit covering 86 km? This long-distance hiking trail offers a unique hiking experience and leads right through the heart of the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. Sun worshippers take note! In the sunny village of Virgen, at an altitude of 1,200 metres, you can enjoy a few precious hours of sunshine even in the depths of winter. The unobstructed view of the ruins of Rabenstein Castle and the mighty mountain ranges of the Lasörling and Venediger groups is best enjoyed from the terrace of one of the many accommodation options in Virgen.
The winter highlight for families awaits at the Sillian Ski Centre in Hochpustertal. On slopes with guaranteed snow, children up to the age of 6 ski for free and enjoy the child rate until their 18th birthday. In the Defereggental valley, you’ll find not just good slopes, but excellent ones! Awarded the Tyrol Slope Seal of Quality, the St. Jakob Ski Centre offers sunny, open slopes, fast runs down to the valley and wide, open runs.
Pure adrenaline awaits you just twenty minutes from the Matreier Tauernhaus. At the Eispark Osttirol, artificial ice falls provide around 70 climbing routes on icy surfaces. With a range of difficulty levels, the Eispark is the ideal destination for both beginners and experts.
The High Road Pustertal is a stunning scenic route. It runs for just under 30 kilometres from Abfaltersbach via the High Road Pustertal to Leisach.
