Stage 1 of the Matrei i. O. valley trail starts in the centre at the Rauterplatz. There is a car park and a bus stop at the nearby Korberplatz. From there, it passes the tourist information office in the direction of Tauernbach. In the district of Proßegg, you cross the Tauernbach stream and follow the Thiemeweg trail. This section of the trail is only recommended for sure-footed walkers. There are also several play stations for children in this area. After about 6 km, you will reach the hamlet of Auerfeld, which marks the end of the first stage. From here, you can either walk back to the start (walking time approx. 10 minutes) or take the bus back.
