Michelin Guide

Osttirol is well represented in the culinary firmament

Tyrol is once again the top-ranked Austrian state in the latest Michelin Guide. Twenty-two restaurants were awarded either two or one Michelin star. In addition, three restaurants received the green Michelin star for sustainability, and eight were awarded Bib Gourmands for exceptional value.

Osttirol is once again strongly represented on this year’s list of starred restaurants: on the one hand, with the Gannerhof, which is the only Osttiroler establishment to receive a Michelin star and was also once again awarded the “Green Michelin Star” for sustainability. Additionally, David Senfter and his Ansitz12 in Lienz represent another Osttirol establishment that has been awarded one Michelin star. The three East Tyrolean restaurants— "Das Pfleger" in Anras, the Saluti in Matrei in Osttirol, and the Almfamilyhotel Scherer in Obertilliach—can once again call a "Bib Gourmand" award their own, just as they did last year.

The Gannerhof embodies nature, art, and cuisine

Josef Mühlmann, head chef and owner of the Gannerhof in Innervillgraten, is certain: Reflecting on cooking and the ingredients used clearly pays off. After earning 4 toques, the Culinary Oscar, and many other awards, Josef Mühlmann can now also call himself a Michelin-starred chef.

And in more ways than one—he has not only been awarded 1 Michelin star, but also one of only 13 green Michelin stars in all of Austria for sustainability. That’s what really sets Josef and the Gannerhof apart: a genuine commitment to regional ingredients and unpretentious cooking—with little fanfare but plenty of finesse.

Trendy and diverse

David Senfter, who runs the restaurant “Ansitz12” at the Hotel Goldener Stern in Lienz together with his wife Anita, has been newly inducted into the Michelin star hall of fame. After earning four Gault Millau toques right off the bat, David Senfter has now also been awarded one of the highly coveted Michelin stars. Senfter impresses with regional, upscale cuisine and multi-course menus that change weekly.

Culinary Experiences as a Driver of Tourism

“With these awards, Osttirol proves once again that regionality and haute cuisine go hand in hand here! Every bite speaks of passion, quality, and love for the homeland. Osttirol shines not only as a natural and outdoor paradise, but also as a culinary destination. Heartfelt congratulations to the award-winning restaurants—this is a great recognition of their outstanding achievements. My thanks go to all of Osttirol’s top chefs and especially to the many traditional restaurants in the district that uphold traditional cuisine,” says TVB Chairman Franz Theurl.
