If you want to spare yourself a two-hour ascent to the Kals-Matreier-Törlhaus, you can start your high-altitude hike at 2,400 m at the Adlerlounge, which you reach by cable car from the parking lot in Kals/Großdorf. Then an approx. 40-minute descent to the Kals-Matreier-Törlhaus and continue on variant 1 in approx. 3.5 hours to the Sudetendeutsche Hütte. This is a black mountain trail that requires absolute surefootedness and a head for heights as well as some alpine experience. This due to a rope-secured, rocky descent after the Dürrenfeldscharte.
