The Drau cycle trail

The Drau cycle trail proceeds from Toblach in South Tyrol via Lienz to Völkermarkt in Carinthia and from there into Maribor in Slovenia. Two of the six stages of the Drau cycle trail proceed through East Tyrol. The first stage proceeds over 47 kilometres from Toblach to Lienz. The second stage takes cyclists from Lienz to Spittal and at 74.5 kilometres is quite a bit longer. Lots of interesting cultural sites line the route. For instance, you can go right past the history-charged walls of the old Roman settlement of Aguntum.

Punbrugge at Heinfels
Drauradweg at Strassen
Castel Schloss Bruck at Lienz
Pilgrimage church at Lavant

The Drau cycle trail with its 366 kilometres of cycling, is one of the loveliest cycling routes in Europe. A base, not just for scenic pleasures, but also for many specialist hosts along the route. The cycle tour proceeds via a well-signposted route and is suitable for all kinds of bicycles. The tour is also recommended for families with children and for those who are new to cycling.

The Drauradweg will be almost fully accessible from 29th May 2019!

During the summer of 2019, there will be closures between Sillian and Lienz. This is due to the damages caused by the flood of last autumn.
