Lots of space, peace and quiet, relaxation and plenty of fresh air. The Osttirol cows Alma and Heidi are used to this and usually appreciate it. But even the hearts of thoroughbred alpine cattle sometimes crave a little variety. So off they go, Alma and Heidi set off for the city. I wonder what they will experience there?

Correct behaviour towards grazing animals

Correctly assess the behaviour of grazing animals: Hikers are recommended to exercise caution when encountering grazing animals. In order to avoid potentially dangerous situations, certain guidelines should be followed and one should be aware of common behavioural patterns of grazing animals.

Threatening behaviour by cattle

In the event of an encounter, most cows will initially stand still and focus on their objective. They raise and lower their head, go down on bended knee and sni (= smell intensely, as cattle have relatively poor eyesight). The animals then usually take a few, often slow, steps towards their goal, before setting off at a faster pace.
