Iseltrail Photo Challenge

Shining a Light on the Iseltrail

In May 2025, the Osttirol Tourism Association launched the “Iseltrail Photo Challenge.” Numerous professional and amateur photographers took part in this contest to showcase their best images of the Isel River and the Iseltrail to a wide audience.

Photos could be submitted via an online platform through the end of June 2025 in two categories:

Fine Art Nature Photos of the Iseltrail: The call for entries sought outstanding, masterful nature photos on the themes of water, forests, mountains, animals and plants, macro photography, and abstract images.

Iseltrail Vacation Photos: This category was for photos that conveyed experiences on the Iseltrail in the most creative and original way possible—including photos of people, animals, and interactions. Smartphone photos were expressly encouraged.

A panel of experts and the online community then evaluated the submitted photos and selected the seven best in each category. The winning photos in the Fine Art Nature category were submitted by Ulrike Eisenmann, Edith Tembler, Karl Seidl, Hanna Dengg, Marlies Glieber, Marion Pöllinger, and Marian Kröll. In the Iseltrail
Vacation Photos, the top spots went to Michael Herwey, Johanna Bacher, Toni Außerlechner, Reinhard Schwald, Bernhard Berger, Ulrike Haas, and Marianne Burkhardt.

The top three finishers in each category will win attractive Osttirol adventure prizes. In addition, the 14 winning photos will be presented at a vernissage for the Iseltrail Photo Challenge on August 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Johannisplatz in Lienz.

Franz Theurl, chairman of TVB Osttirol, is delighted with the lively participation in the photo contest: “We received a wonderful mix of photos, ranging from special spots along the Isel River to impressive nature scenes and personal vacation memories. Choosing the best photos wasn’t easy, which also speaks to the high quality of many of the entries. Even spontaneous snapshots are of a remarkably high standard these days. As part of the ‘Year of the Isel,’ we’re very pleased that the photo challenge has reached so many people and will hopefully spark even more enthusiasm for the Iseltrail.”
