Grand 3-Zinnen Loop

A Panoramic Experience in the Dolomites

Lienz is an ideal starting point for excursions to neighboring South Tyrol. The journey takes you past the imposing Dreischusterspitze—the highest peak in the Sesto Dolomites—on to San Candido.

The route continues over the Kreuzberg Pass (1,636 m) to Auronzo di Cadore and Misurina, home to the enchanting Lake Misurina. This lake is a popular destination in the province of Belluno and is also known as the “Pearl of Cadore” due to its clear waters and picturesque surroundings.

Situated at an altitude of 1,756 meters, the glacial lake is surrounded by the imposing peaks of the Three Peaks, Monte Piana, the Cadini Group, Monte Cristallo, and, further south, Marmarole and Sorapiss. The speed skating competitions were held here during the 1956 Winter Olympics.

The route leads over the Tre Croci Pass (1,809 m) to the Olympic town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, where Italy’s elite gather. The journey then continues back toward Dobbiaco through the wild and romantic Höhlensteintal valley. A visit to the Baroque church in Toblach, with its famous frescoes by Franz Anton Zeller, is another highlight of the trip.
