Cycling in Defereggen valley – always heading to the sun

The routes for cyclists in Defereggen valley could safely be described as ‘inexhaustible’. They head for gnarly, managed alpine lodges and also to bothies and unique cultural sites.

Cycling for enjoyment

Anyone who isn’t so keen on energy-sapping climbs on the bike, can and should opt for the curved paths along the burbling streams. Families in particular hold the St. Jakob – Erlsbach cycle path in high regard, above all else. It also goes past a play area.

Mountain biking like the pros

Famous and infamous, Defereggen valley also has a few mountain bike routes which even put the pros to the test. The ‘Hintere Alpe Stalle’ route has a ‘good’ reputation. On a 6.1 kilometres route there is a full 624 metres altitude to tackle. The circuit around the Riesenferner, which is 104.5 kilometres in length, covers 888 metres altitude.
