Twenty to thirty craftsmen were once employed on the Wurzerhof farm in the Winkeltal valley in the municipality of Außervillgraten. They made the tools they needed as foresters, carpenters, shoemakers or joiners themselves. They can be seen in the basement of the main house. The Leiter family has set up a museum there with the active help of the Villgraten local history association. There is a small forge, a forge, a baking oven and a workshop with many tools and traditional crafts from the region.

The entire farm ensemble consists of a courtyard and several outbuildings such as a washhouse/shed (smokehouse), chapel, grain mill and sawmill.

Situated on the Winkelbach stream, the Wurzerhof has had a chequered history. Storms, mudslides and floods occurred at regular intervals, partially destroying the sawmill and grain mill. But complaining didn't help. They rolled up their sleeves, repaired, restored and even extended the farm. This "perseverance" and "not giving up" has created an emotional bond between the people and their farm that has become rare. Veronika, Sepp and Elena Leiter live, manage and work in a museum. With many exciting stories about the house and farm, the Leiter family conveys how beautiful and how hard the life of a mountain farming family in the Alps can sometimes be. During the museum season, the Wurzerhof open-air museum is always open on Fridays.
