Große Kinigat 2. 689 m

A regal tour in the East Tyrolean section of the Carnic Alps. From the Lusser Säge at the Gail we follow the border area hiking trail at Erschbaumer Bach along to Erschbaumer Tal. At around 1500 metres we cross the stream, where the route is joined by the Rauchenbach. A hairpin bend path continues into the valley up to the left on the Staudenhang slope, which has relics from World War I. The little Tascharrehütte is on an overhanging slope. The path proceeds to the south-east through the upper Erschbaumer Tal, bounded by the faces of the Große Kinigat and the Königswand.

The path meanders upwards in several hairpin bends and extends to the Hintersattel. It is around 20 minutes downhill to the Filmoor-Standschützenhütte. On the Große Kinigat you leave the lodge in the western section. We reach Filmoor saddle and follow the narrow rocky platform which acts as the ascent to the summit. A steel cable is useful on this rocky site, which you should proceed on with care. We then reach the summit corrie, inclined to the north, which has remnants of former war sites. Just 10 minutes away is the peace cross on the Große Kinigat.
