The St. Pöltner Hütte at 2.481 m is the destination for the day and the starting point for high alpine mountain tours and alpine lodge transfers.

Summit finishes: Messelingkogel - 2.694 m, 1,5 h easy; Hörndl - 2.852 m, 2,5 h moderate; Hochgasser - 2.922 m, 1,5 h, risk of falling rocks, difficult;

Open: End of June to end of September - weather depending

Cosy hut for climbers, set in a fantastic location at the top of the pass of the ager-old Taurn crossing between Salszburg and East Tyrol.

15 bedrooms and 50 "Lager" beds.

Tyrolean and regional specialties and the best apple strudel are served.

Ascents:

From Matreier Tauernhaus, 1.511 m: Venedigerblick - panorama trail in about 3,5 h; Venedigerblick - Drei Seen-Weg - Messerlingscharte in about 4,5 h; Wohlgemuthalm - Zirmkreuz in about 3,5 h; Außergschlöss - Zirmkreuz in about 4 h;

From Hintersee in Felbertal/Salzburg: Normal route via Trudental - Naßfeld - St. Pöltner Hütte, approx. 4 hours; Via Gaisstein ("Trassensteig", only for experienced hikers!, rope safety) 3.5 hours.

Connections: Prager Hütte, 8 hrs (St. Pölten Westweg). Fürther Hütte via Sandebentörl 6 hrs. Alpine Hotel Rudolfshütte (St. Pölten East Trail), 10-14 hrs, high alpine crossing only with glacier equipment!
