The Three Kings Market in Lienz

The Three Kings Market returns to Johannesplatz in Lienz from December 29, 2024, through January 6, 2025. Extended hours at the end of the year, a local band performing every day, even more culinary delights from local clubs, and an Epiphany Market parade that winds through Lienz’s romantically lit Old Town on three days—that’s what visitors can expect at this year’s Epiphany Market.

For the sixth time, the Osttirol Tourist Board is inviting guests and locals alike to a special experience “between the holidays” in Lienz’s Old Town. The Epiphany Market on Johannesplatz has long since established itself as THE place to be during the Christmas season, featuring a first-class music program, a variety of culinary delights, and a festive atmosphere.

The market begins on December 29 and is open daily through January 6; it is closed only on January 1. Initiator Franz Theurl: “As a tourism board, we want to use this event, on the one hand, to give something back to the localclubs and musicians, offer them a stage, and support them financially. On the other hand, it has always been our goal to offer both tourists and locals an attractive downtown experiencefollowing the Advent market. We have clearly succeeded in doing so with the Epiphany Market.”

NEW: The Three Kings Market Parade

For the first time this year, the Three Kings Market Parade will also make its rounds from December 29 to 31, bringing additional life to historic, festively lit squares in Lienz’s Old Town. Starting at 3:00 p.m., the route leads from Johannesplatz to Rudl Duregger’s Alte Schmiede (at the corner of Messinggasse and Alleestraße), where passengers can admire the nativity scene or have lucky charms forged for the new year.

Silvano Soravia from Eissalon Deliziosa will be serving hot drinks—perfect for this time of year. The tour continues through Messinggasse and Franz-von-Defregger-Straße into Schweizergasse, where a stop at the Freedom Fighter Monument—right next to the Golden Star, run by Josef Mühlmann—promises some culinary refreshments. Finally, the route leads back to Johannesplatz via Schweizergasse, Egger-Lienz-Platz, and Messinggasse.

A variety of regional delicacies

The Three Kings Market has also become known for its fine selection of food and drinks. The market stalls run by local clubs offer a delicious mix of traditional and creative specialties.

From potato soup, chili made with local game, roasted Schlipfkrapfen, giant smoked sausages with bread and horseradish, cheese dumplings in soup, sausages and Tirtln with sauerkraut, waffles, and other desserts —all the way to vegan barley soup —there’s truly something for everyone to satisfy their cravings and recharge after a day of winter sports or strolling through town.

Local bands will once again perform on the Epiphany Market evenings, featuring live music across a wide variety of genres —from Sundownmusic to Julia’s Jukebox to Anras Brass.
