Come to a rest, catch your breath, let your gaze wander over the unique mountains, including Grossglockner and Grossvenediger. Autumn can be enjoyed to the fullest in Osttirol! Already in early autumn, the high mountain peaks have been wrapped in a fine snow blanket.

It’s not only Austria's highest mountain with 3798 metres that plays the main role — the entire summit panorama takes your breath away.266 three-thousanders tower in the sky of Osttirol and shape the sight of the region with small side valleys and historic mountain villages — pristine and authentically. Classic tours and iconic mountains

The best way to experience the world between the Hohe Tauern, the Lienz Dolomites and the Hochpustertal Valley is by foot. Autumn, when the larch forests present themselves in rich yellow and the sky is a bit bluer, is perfect hiking season. Not only the Glockner Group attracts passionate summit hikers and leisure hikers. The Grossvenediger above the Innergschlöss is a classic just like the bizarre peaks of the Lienz Dolomites. The limestone mountain range with its numerous buttes offers you many attractive climbing routes of various difficulty levels.

There are also more than 200 mountain shelters and farm huts for enjoyment moments and resting places that provide extraordinary mountain views. Like Jagdhausalm in Defereggental: Austria’s oldest hill farm was first mentioned in 1212. Another insider tip waiting for you is Debanttal Valley: The magical alpine landscape in Debanttal Valley plays the main role here.

From the carpark in Nussdorf Debant you come through Austria's longest enclosed alpine pasture of 12 km length, past the cosy Lienzer Hütte at 1,975 m, where hikers and bikers can reward themselves with a typical snack - having the Glödis, also called Matterhorn of the Schober Group, always in sight.

Or the mountain huts in Virgental Valley, some of which invite you to stop by until late October. Virgental Valley represents the special qualities of Osttirol: it’s authentic, without any transit traffic, with traditional villages and old mountain farms. With people who cherish their traditions and really live them.
