One of these three sunny villages is the municipality of Thurn, which is located on the gently rising valley floor, only about 2 km from the city centre of Lienz. If you turn your eyes to the south in Thurn, the rugged limestone cliffs of the Dolomites rise impressively at the opposite end of the Lienz valley floor. In the foreground, the densely wooded Rauchkofel at the foot of Lake Tristacher See is a popular destination. The peaks of the Schober Group, which reside in the area of the municipality, complete the beauty of Thurn. The municipality also provides other rewarding tour destinations such as the Rotgabele or the Goisele.
Thurn lives up to its reputation as sunny village throughout the year, in every season you can refill your vitamin D stores here. Especially attractive at Thurn are the different landscape characteristics. While the north-western area has high alpine character, in the northeast you will find an area that belongs to the plateau of winter sports and hiking resort Zettersfeld.
