Description

The starting point for this hiking tour is the parking area at the Felbertauern residential park (in german: Wohnpark Felbertauern) in the loop leading to the main street Felbertauernstraße. From there, walk about 100 m in the direction of the Felbertauerntunnel and then follow the path that leads up to the district Hinterburg on the right. Pass the first houses and walk between house no. 2 and house no. 3 onto the asphalt road. Follow the asphalt road until a gravel path leads off to the right. Follow this path in a north-easterly direction. After about 1 km you come to a fork. Here you choose the path that leads up to the left. Walk along this path. You then pass house Glanz No. 16 and follow the stream Bretterwandbach against the direction of the river to the Wallische Hütte. Walk the same way back for a while. After the aforementioned house Glanz No. 16, continue for about 1 km and take the path that leads back to the center of Matrei in Osttirol on the left at the fork this time. Follow the path until you meet the asphalt road. You then pass the chapel Bachkapelle or Bachkirchl. A carved Pietà, guarded by St. Florian and St. George, adorns the altar of the chapel. Past the chapel Bachkapelle, turn right at the next opportunity. Go past the house Grabenweg 19 and then turn left. Follow the road until you get to the residential park C, D and E. Here you only have to turn right once more to get to the starting point.
