The Umbal waterfalls nature force trail at the rear of Virgen valley takes you very close to the origin of the Isel and, like no other valley in the Hohe Tauern, the Umbal valley impressively shows its landscape-forming effect and the character of a glacier stream. Large amounts of water thunder down the cataracts (cascades) and into the valley, especially in the summer months when the glacier is melting. Interesting display boards provide information along the circular trail and along with the viewing platforms make the unbelievable natural forces of water really tangible, whetherit be water high above the gorge or close by.

The Umbal waterfalls nature force trail was awarded with the Austrian Hiking Quality Seal in 2014. For everybody wanting to know more about the Umbal waterfalls, we recommend taking the natural history guide from the Austrian Alpine Association of the same name with you on the hike.
