Dölsach

A popular holiday destination

Hardly any other Osttirol municipality is as strongly influenced by agriculture as Dölsach. More than 50 farmers cultivate and cherish the fields and slopes on the sunny side of the Lienz Valley bottom. In addition to traditional dairy farming, there are many fruit farmers in Dölsach, and the tradition of schnapps distilling is still kept alive here with passion.

The landscapes around Dölsach are unique. If you look to the south, the bizarre mountains and spectacular rock formations of the Lienz Dolomites pile up impressively. The mountain Roter Turm lives up to its name all year round, when at sunrise and at sunset its northern wall "glows" in deep red nuances.

The people of Dölsach are sociable, so many of them are engaged in by now 38 clubs. Even the Romans appreciated the unique landscape and the special conditions on the sunny slopes of this municipality. The impressive excavation site of the former Roman city of Aguntum bears witness to the events of past centuries and is at the same time the only Roman town in Tyrol.

By now Dölsach has become a popular holiday and excursion destination. Especially the public swimming pool located quietly on the edge of the woods is an insider tip for those who seek cooling. Slightly above the bathing facility, numerous hiking trails lead across the mountain ridges to various destinations. Two of them, Mount Iselsberg and Ederplan, reward hikers and bikers with impressive views onto the Lienz Basin. A visit to the nearby historic city centre of Lienz is worthwhile anyway throughout the year - whether in winter in a cosy downtown café or in summer on their sun-drenched terraces.
