St. Jakob i. D., which can count the Oberhauser Zirbenwald as the largest contiguous Swiss Stone Pine forest in the Eastern Alps among its area, literally allows you to breathe easy thanks to the alpine healing climate.
The very slowly growing Swiss Stone Pine can live up to 1,000 years, reach a diameter of up to two meters, and a height of just over 20 meters. Special schnapps and liqueurs are made from its cones. Woodcarvers in the region almost exclusively use the soft Swiss Stone Pine wood for their artworks.
This and much more about the tree, which is part of the pine family, can be discovered by visitors in the free “Erlebnis Zirbe” exhibition at the trading house, in the center of St. Jakob i. D..
