The upper side alpine flower and panoramic trail in St. Jakob (Defereggen valley) provides a great insight into the colourful diversity of alpine plants and their living conditions in the high mountain region. We will go from Trogach (car park) to the actual starting point in the area of the tree line above St. Jakob. After a slight uphill climb to the Seespitzhütte, you will discover numerous flowering plants in the alpine meadows. The natural history guide from the Austrian Alpine Association of the same name provides interesting facts on flora and fauna at all stops and on the healing effect of some alpine plants. The “short circular trail” runs east from the Seespitzhütte as an alpine path and then branches off through the upper side of the avalanche barrier down the valley towards the start point.
The alpine flower and panoramic trail Oberseite can also be taken as a “long circular trail” - this involves more time spent on the alpine path from the Seespitzhütte to the east (Reggnalm) and then descending into the Trojeralm valley (Note: long day tour).
