Whole worlds open up in Nationalparkhaus in Matrei.


A whole tangible world, which really does not stint on beauty – the world of the Hohe Tauern National Park and to be more precise, the Tyrol section of this spectacular National Park. A full two floors have been reserved for people who don’t just want to gaze in wonder at the beauty and impressive scenery, but who also want to find out a bit more about the plants and animals which are there, and about the history of the National Park. Next time round you will then be an expert hiker and will be able to scrutinise everything a little bit more. The natural and also the cult history of the Hohe Tauern National Park Hohe Tauern will be more than familiar to you, you will find out about the cult and hunting areas from the Stone Age and will also appreciate how agricultural systems have changed over time.

On the occasion of the National Park’s 25th birthday, a new exhibition "Tauern Views – Awesome Moments" is opening its doors. It’s an interactive exhibition that introduces a range of different habitats and exciting spaces in the protected area; and it should certainly put you in the mood for exploring the great outdoors for yourself.  Your route through the 6 adventure-rooms is marked out by spectacular 360°-videos.  In each room Rangers present such National Park East Tyrol hotspots as the Jagdhausalmen (alpine pastures), the Umbal Falls and the fabulously impressive glacier experience.  The panning shot from the Großglockner summit is a special highlight.  Ranger Andreas was there and welcomes you from an altitude of 3,798m – just feel the freedom on top of the highest mountain in Austria, in the very heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.  After this action-packed virtual experience, you might almost believe that you yourself, as a visitor to the National Park House, had climbed the highest mountain in Austria.
