Elaborately decorated stands, lights, fires, the scent of gingerbread, Kiachl pastries, mulled wine and hot tea, all surrounded by quiet sounds are the ingredients that make the Lienz Advent special. Original gift ideas, Christmas tree decorations, traditional crafts and culinary treats also make the Advent market a cosy and atmospheric place for the whole family to meet as the snow, with any luck, starts to fall softly...
The Lienz Krampus Days on the 3, 5 and 6 December are the spectacular highlight of Advent. Following the centuries-old tradition, the Krampuses hide behind elaborately hand-carved masks, wrap themselves in thick, shaggy fur and hang huge bells on themselves. When watching safely behind barriers, the Krampus run is an impressive experience for visitors and locals alike. In Sillian, a Krampus parade is held on 5 December, which is regarded one of the most spectacular in the Pustertal valley.
Regional craftsmen and artists show off their skills and provide you with insights into their traditional work. We invite you to watch it and join in with the atmospheric show.
There are soft lights all around the Advent market on Thursdays. At dusk, hundreds of candles and lanterns are lit and the atmospheric sea of light takes all the Advent market visitors on a journey into their own childhood – together with the atmospheric live music, Christmassy scents and sensations - and makes sure it won’t just be the eyes of the children that light up.
‘The worship of the King’ is quite possibly the greatest type of gingerbread at Schloss Bruck. The bakers and confectioners of Lienz have joined forces to recreate this unique product and baking artwork. Exquisite spices such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, anise, ginger, fennel and coriander are included to make the fine taste. The carefully handmade original Lienz Lebzelt 1644® biscuit is filled with genuine Tyrolean cranberries. The old pattern, shaped in the finest marzipan, surrounds the top of the Lebzelt.
