We have something extra special for our Osttirol friends, fans, and guests: the memory-function on our website.
No other glacier-fed river in the Alps has retained its unique character and beauty as much as the Isel. It is not just the biggest glacier river in the Alps without any congestion and channels; from its source to the outfall it covers a length of 57.26 kilometres and an altitude of 1730 metres.
The headwaters of the Isel force their way thunderously through the rocks. At the famous Umbal Falls in Prägraten it plunges in several cataract levels to Virgental. Then, as if tamed, it provides any amount of pleasure for those seeking relaxation. Whether kayaker, rafter, ‘Schluchtenhupfern’ (canyoner) or angler – everyone is always welcome at the Isel. A family holiday in East Tyrol actually means a family holiday at the Isel. The river is a genuine natural spectacle for children. Flora and fauna, bays which nestle at the meanders of the Isel, fine, clean sand on the banks. What more could a child’s heart want for?
