The Isel cycle trail

All along the Isel

With a length of about 29 kilometers and an average gradient of one percent, the Iseltal cycle trail is a good way to leave the vibrant small town of Lienz behind for a short time and simply cycle on towards Matrei in Osttirol. The bike path is mostly asphalted and only a short section of country road has to be taken to the final stop at Matrei in Osttirol. Of course, the Iseltal cycle trail can also be tackled in reverse from Matrei in Osttirol to Lienz. This route is always slightly downhill.

From Lienz to St. Johann im Walde (14 kilometres) you get to cycle on a completely asphalted cycle trail with no gradients, along the Isel. From St. Johann im Walde to Huben (6 kilometres) you ride via the old country road, past the Kienburg Ruins, to Huben. From Huben to Feld (4 kilometres) the route then ascends slightly on a country road which doesn’t have much traffic. From Feld to Matrei in Osttirol (5 kilometres), the trail proceeds through a shaded section of forest and then along the main road to Matrei in Osttirol, the main town in the Iseltal.
