The Hohe Tauern National Park reveals itself at its best in the open natural surroundings. Anyone with an interest in nature will also get an insight into the plant and animal kingdom at the various exhibitions and the various themed areas around the Hohe Tauern National Park, as well as in the entire region of East Tyrol.
You can visit the new exhibition "Tauern views – Moments of wonder” in the Information and Service centre. The interactive exhibition presents various habitats and areas to explore in the conservation area and gets you in the mood for discovering the natural surroundings. Spectacular 360° videos filmed with National Park rangers accompany you in all 6 ‘experience’ rooms, as does a film of the highest mountain in Austria, the "Großglockner", in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
The exhibition in the Hohe Tauern National Park, with themes based around the natural gems in the conservation area can now be seen in the district capital, Lienz. You get to experience the power & beauty of the breath-taking natural surroundings and you will barely be able to wait getting out there on an exploratory tour in the Hohe Tauern National Park in East Tyrol. "Meet a Ranger" in the tourist building in Lienz - between 10th July and 11th September 2017 on Mondays between 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. you get to experience "genuine" tour tips and secrets about the National Park from the park custodians.
On the newly built Glocknerwinkel car park you get to enjoy the most spectacular view to the 3798 m Glockner summit and an impressive 360° mountain panorama. The new National Park information point provides a magical panoramic view of the Glockner and an exhibition with a panoramic view and also plenty of information, for instance about weekly guided ranger tours to observe the animals in their natural habitats.
This exhibition in Handelshaus St. Jakob is devoted to one very special tree. Accompanied by the pleasing scent of Swiss pine you get to find out lots of interesting information about the tree, which can reach an age of over 1000 years old. However, the exhibition is not merely there to provide information, it is also there to inspire you to get out and explore in the nearby Swiss pine forest in Oberhauser, the largest interconnected Swiss pine forest in the East Alps.
There is an extensive exhibition about the highest mountain in Austria to captivate you in the Glocknerhaus in Kals. Exciting stories about the first climb, information about various ascent routes and also the superb minerals found in the Glockner group await visitors. The exhibition was completely re-designed in 2014.
Consider the cultural landscape of the village in harmony with the surrounding Hohe Tauern National Park from the perspective of various personalities from Virgen. Every story can be directly experienced through a hike in Virgental. Visitors are inspired to follow in the tracks of raconteurs in the landscape.
