We have something extra special for our Osttirol friends, fans, and guests: the memory-function on our website.
Virgen calls itself ‘sunny village’ and anyone who knows of Virgen realises that these are not empty words; rather they are the truth and nothing but the truth. Situated in the Hohe Tauern, to the south of the Venediger group at around 1200 metres altitude, its location can but be described as ideal in terms of hours of sunshine. Since the south-facing summits of the Lasörling group are significantly low, the sun has an opportunity to shine a few hours more than anywhere else, even in the depths of winter. We didn’t just find that out yesterday, it can even be seen and read in the name Virgen. Virgen is derived from Slavic and means something like ‘sunny spot’.
Virgen is even described as the ‘Meran of East Tyrol’. In any event it is evident that many hundreds of years earlier people felt great here in Virgen and enjoyed the many hours of sunshine. Of course you don’t just get to enjoy sun in Virgen and look at the mountains, you can also explore the ‘Path of the Senses’ and Virgener Feldflur . Virgental’s walking and running arena are also there – but we don’t want to start talking about hiking and skiing here. There is only so much we can say in this space and the options are all too many …
