We have something extra special for our Osttirol friends, fans, and guests: the memory-function on our website.
The town of Thurn has a mere 620 inhabitants. Not a lot. Yet its location really is beautiful, is you are thinking of holidaying in this lovely town. Thurn is situated on a slightly ascending valley floor, just 2 kilometres from the centre of Lienz. Indeed the view of the Lienz Dolomites which you can get from Thurn is quite different. The summits of the Schobergruppe, which are in the district, do their best to contribute to the beauty of Thurn. There are a few summits in the area, for instance the Rotgabele and the Goisele.
The contrast in Thurn is also particularly attractive. Whereas the area to the north-west is high alpine in character, in the north east you will find a part of the winter sports area of Zettersfeld on an elevated plain. Thurn is also of historic interest. Thurn was first mentioned in documents dating from 1308. Two strongholds point to a chequered history. Thurn is a very popular place in the winter, which is certainly due to its proximity to the town and also to the ski areas. That there is „only“ one hotel in the town is no obstacle, after all you can get close what is characteristically East Tyrolean with the many private landlords and their hospitality.
