Tamerlanhöhe 2.376 m

From Gumpedall, where cattle also graze in the summer, the route quickly becomes steeper up to the rocky edge and then continues to the left through a few gravelly gullies (a bit of care is required here!), ascending slightly to the Tamerlanhöhe. Having crossed this relatively steep mountain flank, which slopes to the south and reached the ridge, there is an interesting view to the strange rock formations and giant gravel piles of the Lienz Dolomites. With a bit of luck you might also meet those four-legged climbing artistes, the chamois. From the highest point on the Tamerlanhöhe the route continues west and after a relatively steep, yet completely safe descent, you get to the Gontrunsattel.

Stop point: Gumpedall
Walking time: around. 1 - 1 ¼ hours
Difficulty level: moderately hard (you need sure-footedness for some passages!)
