Spitzköfele 2.314 m

The starting point is, just like the possible ascent variant to the Porzehütte, the Pfaffenboden (within 10 minutes’ drive from Obertilliach). At the fork in the road to the Porzehütte you cross over a small stream, go left and you will go through a shaded forest heading up to a Hirtenhütte. The cattle crazing there have “designed” lots of paths and you have to be careful not to stray from the marked route.

When you are eventually on the right route, this proceeds relatively steeply up to the apex of the mountain ridge. From there it just a few minutes’ walk to the summit of the Spitzköfele. When the weather permits, a circuit hike via Kesselhöhe (marked No. 19t) to Bärenbadegg on the Carnic high altitude trail - which has lots of remains of posts from World War I - continuing to Tilliacher Joch and down to Porzehütte is recommended. This requires around 2 ½ - 2 ¾ hours of walking.

Starting point: Pfaffenboden
Walking time: around 2 hours
Difficulty level: moderately hard
