Staller Sattel toboggan run

Staller Sattel represents the crossing point between East Tyrol and South Tyrol. The pass crossing is open in the summer and can be passed in a car. During this time there is the option of heading out on an altitude foray in a unique atmosphere, with or without a toboggan. Children certainly will have more fun with a toboggan. To get to Staller Sattel you have to proceed through all of Defereggen valley, right to the end of the valley. The route then heads up in several sharp bends up to the top of the pass. As soon as you cross the forest boundary, you sense the impressive ambience which emanates from this stark, white winter landscape. The view becomes clearer and the summits already seem to move closer. You are never alone out on the Staller Sattel. There is an altitude cross-country slope at Staller Sattel and roundabout there are several rewarding tours for ski tourers. There is a lovely 2 kilometre route for altitude hikers from Lackenstüberl to the highest point of the Staller Sattel. If you take your toboggan with you, then you can even tackle parts of the route on runners. Before you get to the highest point, the route slightly undulates on a few occasions – ensuring you get a bit of variety. Just before the destination, there is another steep slope and you reach the pass summit. A fantastic panorama view opens up before you. Right at the pass, on the South Tyrol side is the Hexenschenke, a snack station where you can warm up and enjoy some refreshments. For tobogganing fans the start of another exceptional adventure begins right at the Hexenschenke – a toboggan run up to Antholzersee.
