Description

From the mountain station at the summit of the Thurntaler, briefly head west until you descend to flat terrain. There is now a little south-facing ridge rise to scale, then a descent to the Astattsattel. Continue to the Hochrast 2436 m and from the summit descend on the north side to the flat saddle in front of the Gumriaul 2526 m. When there is sufficient snow you can now proceed via the ridge of the Gumriaul up to the Marchkinkele, which is for the most part better in the spring. Or cross the steep southern flanks of the Gumriaul on the visible road to get to the Marchkinkele. When there is a risk of snow slabs, leave the route and proceed via flat terrain a bit further down (south side), then ascent briefly again up to the Marchkinkele.

Characteristics:

This tour should only be undertaken when the weather is good, otherwise you will not be able to enjoy the superb view to the nearby Dolomites. From the start to the end of the tour to the Marchkinkele you are accompanied by the strange Sexten Dolomites. The tour covers just a few metres altitude and is doable even for beginners when the weather conditions are good. The descent in the forested area proceeds via the partly steep, narrow trail and is not to be underestimated when the conditions are poor!

Descent:

From the summit via the ridge heading briefly north west, then descend to the lovely summit slope. Keeping to the base of the valley until, at the forest boundary, the route leaves the base of the valley heading south. Up on the Graferalm you change over to the left side of the valley again. Get to the Galleralm 1790 m, on a narrow track, which is used up to the Noltnerhof. Via steep pastures and crossing an agricultural road you reach Innervillgraten 1402 m. The bus stop is on a rural road is close to a joinery. You can take the bus back to Sillian. The descent proceeds on the south-east slopes which is why it is advisable to finish early in the spring.
