The forest nature trail in the Matrei district of Zedlach takes you through a magical larch forest, one of the oldest groups of larch trees in Tyrol. The oldest trees are amazingly over 500 years old and have a trunk circumference of up to seven metres. Display boards explain the forest habitat and the development of larch trees. When the centennial and extensive larch woods turn golden yellow in the autumn, they can be found in their most beautiful form at Zedlacher Paradies. Even a hike through this “paradise” in the spring and summer delivers on its promises. The Zedlacher Paradies nature trail above Matrei tells nature lovers everything they need to know about the forest and its animals. And one of the oversized wrought-iron animals which were created by the Matrei artist and metalsmith Erich Trost especially for this theme hike can be found hidden under the mighty larch tree.
