From Maria Luggau, we first follow the cross-country ski trail (or alternatively the main road), then the Grenzlandweg trail towards Kartitscher Sattel, crossing the famous and unique cultural landscape of the Obertilliach fields with their numerous hay huts, before reaching the parish church dedicated to St. Ulrich and the pilgrim patron and apostle James in the listed town centre of Obertilliach. At the northern end of the village, we follow the farm track, which turns left at the ‘wall’ (just above the first drag lift) towards Gripp (No. 47). Soon, a shady, somewhat steep path branches off from this, crossing the farm track several times. At the edge of the forest on the Gripp, there is a small private mountain hut with a magnificent view. From here, the trail continues over the now treeless south-western flank of the mountain to a fork in the trail at a biotope. Here we follow a narrow, almost level path that leads us westwards towards Pfannegg and finally joins the Gailtaler Höhenweg trail.
Seclusion, tranquillity and magnificent panoramic views quickly make you forget the effort of the climb. Over the Dorfberg (2,113 m), the trail leads us in sunny and scenic surroundings to St. Oswald, our destination.
