New in 2009 is the Alps’ longest extensive walking path – ‘East Tyrol 360°’. Extremists will want to hike the 360 km trekking route around East Tyrol. This will take you along the Lienzer Dolomites and the “Karnischen Kamm” past the famous “Jagdhausalmen” (the oldest refuges in Austria) in the Defereggen Valley. The highlight of the tour is: Austria’s roof so near you can almost touch the Großglockner and the Großvenediger. Through the wildly romantic mountain range of the National Park Hohe Tauern to the County town of Lienz. This completes the round trip of the East Tyrol 360°. For refreshments you will find some 45 refuge places and mountain huts along the way. These offer East Tyrolean specialities and the usual atmosphere that you can only find on a hut. For those who prefer to climb some more, like the Großglockner or Großvenediger, a local mountain guide must be hired to achieve this unforgettable experience in complete safety.
