The wildly romantic valleys of the Tauern Mountains, the charming alpine landscape surrounding the highest mountain of Austria, the Lienzer Dolomites and the “Karnischer Kamm” promise ski-tour skiers a lot of fun. Away from prepared runs, they can challenge nature and test the condition of their muscles in the fascinating mountains. Once a month under full moonlight, ski fans gather in Matrei, Kals and Lienz. Snow reflects the brilliant light cast by the moon and night-owls ski the tour safely under the supervision of an alpine guide in this unforgettable scenic spectacle. The challenge par excellence is the ski route “High Tyrol” from Kasern in South Tyrol to Kals. In this 6-day of high mountain crossing, skiers conquer every day one of the many 3.000 high mountain peaks of the Eastern Alps, including the Großglockner and the Großvenediger (3.674 m). We confidently recommend the ski tours in Innervillgraten, the only valley in Tyrol without any lift. It doesn’t matter if you choose an easy tour on the “Gaishörndl” or a middle one on the “Hochgrabe” or on the “Großes Degenhorn”: the power and peace of nature arouse feelings as unforgettable as the altitude meters you ascend!
