On the Hochstein you can ski the women’s World Cup course. Every second year the women compete here for a top placing in an exciting Slalom Race. They are running in 2011 as well.
SLEDGING AND CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Several natural sledging tracks – partially floodlit – offer excitement for young and old.
The highlight is to sledge down the 7,5 km “Dolomitenbahn” at Tristach. It has snow making facilities, so it can be used throughout the winter. Another floodlit sledge track is the “Hochstein-Buchenwaldweg Rodelbahn” (ascending by chair-lift possible), and the Dolomites natural track at Amlach/Leisach.
More than 100 km tracks for the Cross-country skiers can be found in the Lienzer- and connecting valleys. The network of tracks begins on the south side of Lienz with the “Amlacherrunde” and follows an easy track for 30 km towards Pustertal Valley and 35 km in direction of Drautal (Drau Valley). If you want to ski the artificially snowed and floodlit “Lavantrunde” you need to be an advanced skier.
