Cross-country skiing in the snowy mountaineers’ village of Prägraten am Großvenediger means to experience a unique alpine landscape, getting acquainted with the best prepared tracks of every kind. The about 20 km standard track leads to the Recreation Hall in Hinterbichl, carries on to the “Toinig” and runs slightly uphill to the “Fortslehen” before it goes back to Hinterbichl and to the starting point Prägraten. Reward is the gorgeous view of the “Neue Wiesbauer Spitze”, which raised great echo in the medias.
You can also enjoy the “Sonnenloipe” at Ströden, where you can run as long as you want, according to your skills and endurance. From here the view of the icy-giants – loved by ski-tour skiers – towering above the Maurertal (Maurer Valley) is striking. In between your rounds you can recharge, sitting on a bench in the sun, refuelling the energy the body needs in winter.
Kals am Großglockner has 21 km double tracks. With an abundance of snow there is also the possibility to “skate” on additional 8 km.
Cross-country skiers and ski tour skiers find tracks in top condition in the sun flooded, wide basin of Kals. Choose your track and define the rhythm: classical or sporty, masterly or relaxed.
Orientation panels are to be found at the starting points of the tracks in the valley, whereas maps for the tracks are at your disposal at the Tourist Office. There is also the possibility to take Cross-country skiing classes and you can rent the equipment on the spot.
Kals am Großglockner has received the “Tyrolean Cross-Country Skiing Award” from the Tyrolean County Council for the exemplary maintenance and extension of its tracks.
Peace and relaxation combined with Nordic Sports ambition give the perfect touch to your winter holiday.
The Virgen Valley is awaiting Cross-country skiers with 21 km best prepared tracks. From Virgen to Niedermauern the network includes many routes, for example along the brooks, through the woods and in the open countryside, always viewing the 3.000-meters-high mountains.
