East Tyrol offers a wide range of interesting things worth seeing in museums, such as for example the expositions of Schloß Bruck (Bruck Castle) and Schloß Anras (Anras Castle). Moreover, there are also other relevant cultural events, such as the “Gustav-Mahler-Festspiele” or the beloved street theatre “Olala”. At the smaller museums you can witness the past and see how life was in East Tyrol all those years ago.
Worth seeing:
• Schloß Bruck – Town Museum of Lienz
This is the town’s landmark and hosts, among others, the large Albin Egger-Lienz collection.
• Aguntum – Ancient Roman city in Tyrol
The excavations and the Museum Aguntum are well worth a visit, since they witness the only Roman settlement on Tyrolean soil.
• Ancient Regional Court Schloß Anras
The court house was once the summer dwelling-place of the bishops of Brixen, who obtained in 1236 the temporal power and the jurisdiction over the territories from Anras and Obertilliach to the Lienzer Klause.
• Glocknerhaus Kals
The house on the Glockner was inaugurated in 2000 in Kals, exactly 200 years after the first man climbed the Großglockner, the highest peak in Austria.
